Amanda is a PhD candidate at QUT working on establishing a more appropriate framework to assist SMEs to successfully restructure (or be efficiently and cost-effectively wound up) during, and following economic crises.

Amanda’s PhD research focus is on the 2021 amendments to the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth) that were intended to provide financially troubled SMEs with a more cost effective, efficient and less complex legislative regime to restructure or liquidate (Parts 5.3B & 5.5). Her research considers whether technology, (i.e., anything from simple digital automation to sophisticated artificial intelligence), could better assist the regime to achieve its stated objectives.

“I have a particular interest in the Personal Property Securities Act 2009 (Ch) having completed my LLM on that topic in 2012 and restructuring law more generally having practised in that area (from both a transactional and insolvency perspective) for a number of years. My PhD research focus has now moved to SME restructuring.”

Aside from her doctoral studies, Amanda also serves as an Associate Lecturer providing valuable academic support to students and unit coordination in various commercial and high-level research units. These units encompass a diverse range of subjects, including Commercial and Personal Property Law, Real Property Law, Real Estate Transactions, Corporate Law, Commercial Remedies, Commercial Contracts in Practice, Legal Research Capstone, Banking & Finance Law, and Consumer Law in a Digital Age.
